If this weren't the first time, I'd be inclined to be more understanding. [ Security loathes him as much as they do Newt at this point simply due to association (and there may have been a couple of rescue-Newt-from-the-front-door-staff missions that involved Hermann rambling about their unprofessionalism and threatening to write a complaint). In the unlikely event that Hermann somehow misplaces his own badge, they will most certainly give him some difficulties.

Okay, it wasn't as if he was anxiously twisting his hands and tossing and turning in bed because Newt wasn't back from some back alley bar doing shots of whatever ridiculous concoction was trending in Hong Kong. There was work that Hermann was doing. Granted, it only occupied a small amount of his time, but still. ]

Somebody has to make sure you're alright. [ There. Admittance. Kind of. It's difficult for either of them to ever admit that the other is correct.]

I'm not even going to point out how ridiculous it is to blame me when you're already aware that such an accusation makes no sense. [ He is, however, about to comment on the absurdity of three Kaiju in a trench coat (despite being well aware of the joke), but Newt takes off like a deranged toddler, giggling and hurrying about in a haphazard way. At least he has enough sense to momentarily stop and encourage Hermann to follow; that actually earns a chuckle.

It takes longer than usual to reach Newt's room, but, after a few disputes regarding the correct direction, they've made their way to his door, and now...

Well, Hermann isn't so sure if he's still needed. He's already been accused of babying Newt, and he is worn out, and he knows that he keeps complaining about having to help him, but...]

Can I, ah--get you anything? Water, or perhaps something to eat? You won't be much use if your head is in the toilet all day tomorrow, and something in your stomach will surely help deter that.

I believe my concern is perfectly warranted considering that you may blame me come morning if you aren't feeling well.

[ A badge-and-keys stealing goblin.

Right.

Hermann is trying his very best to keep his snippiness at a minimum, but Newt is making it excruciatingly difficult. Of course his keys are also missing. Why wouldn't they be? And of course Hermann is trailing behind him instead of leaving him to face this new endeavor on his own. ]

Your badge was on your desk, but I don't recall seeing a set of keys there. [ If he had, he may have instinctively grabbed onto them as well, just in case.

His nose scrunches at the thought of the lab couch that has been subjected to plenty of abuse between the two scientists. He is almost certain that the mysterious stain on one of the arms is Kaiju blue, while he knows that if he gave a cushion a good thwack with his cane, a cloud of chalk dust would materialize. On particularly rough nights, both have succumbed to exhaustion and have taken short naps on the thing, but he couldn't picture himself willingly stretching out across it for a full night's sleep without fatigue and a deadline dwindling his better judgement. ]

Don't be absurd. I have space in my room. [ And by space, he means the floor, but he has plenty of those terrible military grade blankets to spare. ] And spare clothing as well. I'm sure I have something that'll fit you.

[ The lopsided pull of his mouth and his crinkled brow wordlessly asks, 'Is that a serious question ?'. This look on his face remains (minus an eye twitch at the whole 'essence of Hong Kong nightlife' bit) as Newt rambles off information that Hermann is already all too well aware of. If he is attempting to pursue him to change his mind, it may just work. ]

If you mean to say that you would prefer the couch, a simple "no" would be an adequate answer. You certainly wouldn't be hurting my feelings. Do try to keep yourself from vomiting on the floor, though. The lab already smells like formaldehyde.

[ That could sound sarcastic. It isn't. Do not throw up on the floor. ]

Unless this is a warning. If that's the case, then you should know that I have an idea of what to expect. I've known you for years, Newton.

[ And they spend nearly every waking moment together. Dealing with his drunk self has been straightforward enough. While it has also been slightly arduous, none of the transpired events have been all that surprising. The actual worst that could happen, he predicts, is that Newt throws up. ]

If you would like to come to my room, you may use the shower and change into a clean set of clothing, and while you do so, I will find you an area to sleep. If not, do enjoy the couch. Whatever you choose, know that I am not continuing this conversation any longer. I am going to bed. [ He turns, then, and sets off back towards the living quarters. ]
