Newton, if you’re nowhere near the ocean, you aren’t near the Shatterdome...Are you lost? Do you need me to come get you? World saving potential aside, I would very much like you to be safe for your own sake. I also don’t feel like having to put up with a new lab partner.

I’m not sure how. Either way, I would have somehow ended up as your caretaker. You may have been able to make it back more quickly with my aid, but your badge would have still been lost.

I’m going against my better judgement, and I’m choosing to trust that should you need more help from me, you’ll ask for it.

I’ve dealt with much more insufferable people.

[ Give him a minute or two for the remainder of his response. It actually requires weighing some pros and cons, and then, ultimately, an exasperated ‘fine’ that he actually says out loud. ]

I am not going to be “horking in some alley”, but I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to have one night out.

Please don’t make me immediately regret this decision. I’ll head towards the entrance in about ten minutes. If I don’t see you by twenty, I’ll assume that you’ve done something stupid. At the moment, you’re an eight. Make it back, and I’ll consider knocking it down to a seven.

Don’t push it, Newton.

[ the thought of hermann doing an irish car bomb gives me so much delight??? ]

[ There's an exasperated sigh on Hermann's end. Of course Newt attempted to get through without any aid despite knowing the exact outcome of trying to do so. He's hoping there aren't any negative repercussions. Newt's usual attitude paired with a decent amount of alcohol could only equal to a force to be reckoned with (more so than usual, at least). Security might be snippy with Hermann swooping in to help. Or they'll be thankful that he's ushering the louder scientist away. He's hoping for the latter, naturally.

Being a man of his word, Hermann is nearby, and, without bothering to respond to the text, he's stepping out from the main entrance. He squints and his shoulders hunch from the immediate gust of rain that smacks him in the face. Through the dark and dim lighting, he can see Newt squabbling incoherently with two guards. ]

Hello! Yes, excuse me, sorry-- [ He heads towards the three with a raised voice and annoyance in his tone. ] You'll have to forgive my colleague... [ He begins when the attention is turned towards himself. ] You see, he's a forgetful git who has a knack for losing important items such as this. [ As requested, Hermann did search Newt's desk, and he was able to acquire the badge. He produces it with a bit of a wave before shoving it into his jacket pocket. ] Now, if you don't mind. [ Whether Newt wants to continue yelling at security or not, Hermann hooks an arm around his and begins to tug him away. ]

[ The sight of them, Hermann thinks, and their unceremonious way of attempting to get to the entrance must be embarrassingly laughable, especially when he fumbles to get the door open all while keeping himself and Newt propped up. It’s a miracle that they don’t fall over, really.

Once inside, he promptly detaches himself from the other and reaches for the towel he had kept folded on a nearby surface. His intention was to merely toss it to Newt, but when he whirls around to meet him, Hermann pauses with the towel still enveloped in his fingers.

He looks at Newt with the sort of disapproval that a parent might have when their child stumbles into the house hours past curfew. His eyes are narrowed into a glare, and his mouth is pressed into a thin, tight line. Somehow, his expression manages to contort with even more annoyance as he fully takes in Newt’s state of being, noting his slouched posture, his disarrayed hair, his clothes that are seemingly soaked through, and, if he’s not mistaken, there’s a hint of beer in the air.

A lecture is heavy on his tongue, and it is overflowing into the rest of his mouth, filling up empty spaces and pressing up against his cheeks. There’s a lot he’d like to say to Newt at this moment, a lot that he’d like to complain about. However, when his mouth opens, the intended words dissolve into a sigh. As he exhales, his features soften, and while the annoyance is still evident, there are hints of relief. ]

Do you see what you’ve done? I’m all wet now because of you. [ Again, the annoyance exists, but his tone lacks bite. His own comment also reminds him to finally hand Newt the towel. ]

Come, let me take you to your room before you get yourself into more trouble.

[ Hermann takes the initiative to dry Newt's frames with a part of his pullover that isn't specked with water. After a few warm breathes against the glass, he is content enough with his work, and he hands them back to Newt when their beckoned for. ]

Seeing as I would have been completely dry and possibly in my bed by now if you didn't require my assistance, I most certainly do get to crab at you about it.

[ He huffs a bit at the conclusion of his statement, his demeanor quickly stiffening again. ]

No? Let's see...You've somehow managed to lessen the relationship between you and security even further, you may very well get a cold, you decided to go and drink by yourself with a dying phone, and--

[ Kaiju attacks are popping up more frequently, and the damned Wall of Life was knocked down by Mutavore like a pile of legos, and an unpredicted Kaiju attack is improbable but possible, and he was just a bit worried, okay? Is that a crime, Newton? To be worried and to maybe overreact a teensy bit?

He sighs again, and he cuts himself off before he can actually vocalize any of these thoughts. It's late, and their normal bickering is fine, but he's much too tired for some sort of full blown argument that involves him admitting that he's oddly pensive and perturbed. Instead, he momentarily allows a beat of silence to wash over them before he murmurs. ]

The weather did not say that.

If this weren't the first time, I'd be inclined to be more understanding. [ Security loathes him as much as they do Newt at this point simply due to association (and there may have been a couple of rescue-Newt-from-the-front-door-staff missions that involved Hermann rambling about their unprofessionalism and threatening to write a complaint). In the unlikely event that Hermann somehow misplaces his own badge, they will most certainly give him some difficulties.

Okay, it wasn't as if he was anxiously twisting his hands and tossing and turning in bed because Newt wasn't back from some back alley bar doing shots of whatever ridiculous concoction was trending in Hong Kong. There was work that Hermann was doing. Granted, it only occupied a small amount of his time, but still. ]

Somebody has to make sure you're alright. [ There. Admittance. Kind of. It's difficult for either of them to ever admit that the other is correct.]

I'm not even going to point out how ridiculous it is to blame me when you're already aware that such an accusation makes no sense. [ He is, however, about to comment on the absurdity of three Kaiju in a trench coat (despite being well aware of the joke), but Newt takes off like a deranged toddler, giggling and hurrying about in a haphazard way. At least he has enough sense to momentarily stop and encourage Hermann to follow; that actually earns a chuckle.

It takes longer than usual to reach Newt's room, but, after a few disputes regarding the correct direction, they've made their way to his door, and now...

Well, Hermann isn't so sure if he's still needed. He's already been accused of babying Newt, and he is worn out, and he knows that he keeps complaining about having to help him, but...]

Can I, ah--get you anything? Water, or perhaps something to eat? You won't be much use if your head is in the toilet all day tomorrow, and something in your stomach will surely help deter that.

If you're inebriated to such an extent perhaps I should simply forgo the emergency rations and provide a hangover cure all instead.

[Praise me. Praise me!!]

Just as a test of your judgement and responsiveness while under the influence how exactly would one get from your laboratory to your current location?

[This is absolutely not because she has no sense of direction. No.]
